Fire history, mobile homes and mixed water

The Sandalwood Fire started in Calimesa on October 10, 2019, killed two people and destroyed 74 structures. Smoke and ash are porous-material problems: rugs, drapes and sofas keep odor in their fibers far longer than a hard floor. FEMA’s guide for smoke-damaged homes tells owners to run a HEPA vacuum over carpet and sofas and to leave the HVAC air handler off until the bulk of the soot is gone. No one can promise that every smoke-marked piece comes back fully clean.

About a quarter of Calimesa’s housing, 1,117 units, is mobile homes, and 45 percent of all units predate 1980, although the median year is 1983. Nearly nine in ten occupied homes are lived in by their owners. Name your community, whether JP Ranch, Calimesa Springs or Summerwind Ranch at Oak Valley, and give the carpet’s age.

The Beaumont-Cherry Valley Water District reports hardness averaging about 171 parts per million for the part of Calimesa it serves, in a range of 110 to 230. Your water bill names your supplier. The weather service’s 30-year averages from Redlands, about 9 miles off, put the July high near 95 F and the January low at 41 F, and Santa Ana winds, strong and dry from the east or northeast, can carry dust in during fall and winter.

  3. Two thirds are detached houses

About 67 percent of units stand alone. List the rooms and any stairs, then add any rugs.

Smoke, ash and what fabric keeps

After smoke, upholstery cleaning and rug cleaning matter more than another pass with a mop, since fabric and pile hold odor. Air duct cleaning belongs in the conversation when soot is visible at the registers, though the EPA does not recommend it as routine. Carpet cleaning picks up the ash and dust that settled along with the smoke.

  • Upholstery & leather cleaning in CalimesaSofas, chairs and leather. The cleaning code on the tag (W, S, W/S or X) tells us whether the fabric takes water, solvent or neither.
  • Area rug cleaning in CalimesaShag, woven and delicate rugs, cleaned in your home or taken off site for a full wash. The fiber decides the method, so viscose and Oriental rugs get a careful look first.
  • Air duct cleaning in CalimesaFor ducts with visible mold, vermin or heavy dust and debris. EPA does not recommend it as a routine job, so ask us whether yours needs it.

What customers say on Google

I particularly liked the way the lead cleaner described the PH balance of the solutions that they were using on our carpets. The acidic neutralizing rinse makes sure the floor doesn’t feel crunchy or sticky when it is dry. That extra step means our floors are very silky and totally residue-free.

  • Crystal M.

My kids have turned the giant living room ottoman into a trampoline and it's forever soiled with imprints. Steam cleaning the hefty cloth removed all the dark grime and restored the original bright blue hue. The furniture which is the focus is clean and the living space appears a lot tidier today.

  • Daniel R.

Thick outdoor seats were covered in tree algae and bird poop. Power-washings of the tough material killed any dirt from outside. We are pleased to be hosting barbecues from our clean chairs again.

Questions from Calimesa

Our house smelled of smoke after a wildfire. Can the carpet and sofa be cleaned?
Often the odor can be reduced, but nobody can promise a smoke-marked rug or sofa comes back fully clean. Start with a HEPA vacuum, keep the air handler off while soot is heavy, and call to talk through each piece.
Does Calimesa’s water leave residue on carpet?
Hardness is dissolved calcium and magnesium. The district’s 2025 report averages about 171 parts per million for the part of the city it serves, and it shows up mainly as spotting on glass and tile. On carpet, the safeguard is a thorough rinse.
Can carpet in a mobile home be cleaned like any other?
Yes; the fiber decides the method, as in any house. About a quarter of Calimesa’s housing is mobile homes, so the office plans around the smaller rooms and the layout when you describe them.
How often should carpet be cleaned in an owner-occupied home?
The Carpet and Rug Institute says to clean when the carpet needs it and no less often than every 24 months. If a warranty applies, the maker’s schedule comes first.
Do Santa Ana winds bring dust into Calimesa homes?
The weather service describes them as strong, dry offshore winds that blow from the east or northeast. After a windy spell, vacuum slowly and more than once. Ducts are worth a look only when registers show real dust or debris.
