From a ranch to a river park
Maywood covers little more than a square mile and was developed from 1919 as home tracts on a 2,300-acre ranch, named for May Wood, who worked for the developer. Chrysler ran an assembly plant on Eastern Avenue until the early 1970s. Nearly nine in ten of today’s homes were built before 1980, and more than four in ten before 1950, so older flooring is worth mentioning when you call.
Maywood Riverfront Park, on Slauson Avenue, sits beside the Los Angeles River with access to the river bike path, and the Maywood Activity Center at Maywood Park has a gymnasium, a pool and classrooms. An annual Memorial Day street fair fills Slauson Avenue. Parks and busy streets send dry soil home on shoes, and the Carpet and Rug Institute says most of the soil tracked into a building is dry and that vacuuming removes it.
Three mutual water companies supply the city, and the water is on the hard side, so ask how the rinse is handled. Santa Ana winds also bring hot, dust-bearing air down from the inland deserts, which is one more source of dry soil to vacuum.
Renters, houses and small buildings
Mostly rented
About seven homes in ten are rented. Say whether the cleaning is for a lived-in home or a vacated unit.
SourceHouses as well as apartment buildings
More than half of the units are single-family houses, and about one in six is in a building of five or more. Rentals here run from houses to small buildings to larger apartment blocks, so one line about your building is enough for the call.

Furniture and bedding sit next to the carpet
In a dense, rental-heavy city the soft furnishings work as hard as the floors. Carpet cleaning is the starting point, upholstery cleaning covers sofas and chairs, and mattress cleaning covers beds. The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences says dust mites live in mattresses, bedding, upholstered furniture and carpets and cannot be completely eliminated, so mattress cleaning is for a bed that is dirty or stained, not a promise about mites.
- Carpet cleaningHot-water extraction, often called steam cleaning. Hot water and solution go in, and suction pulls the dirt back out.
- Upholstery & leather cleaningSofas, chairs and leather. The cleaning code on the tag (W, S, W/S or X) tells us whether the fabric takes water, solvent or neither.
- Mattress cleaningStains and odors lifted from the mattress surface. Nobody can remove dust mites completely, so we do not promise it.
