Overnight drizzle, fog drip and a housing boom of the 1950s
The county’s hazard plan describes how summer fog regularly produces light drizzle overnight into the early morning in Pacifica, and how condensation from the fog drips from trees overnight. That is a damp coast, and damp air is slow to dry a cleaned carpet. The long-run temperature normals at its Pacifica station, about a mile away at 475 feet, put July afternoons near 69 F and January nights near 45 F. Run a fan and keep the room open; the Carpet and Rug Institute gives 6 to 12 hours as the usual range.
The same plan says the city grew rapidly in the 1950s and 1960s, and most of its housing, 54 percent as of 2010, was built then. Federal housing estimates today count 14,665 housing units, 72.5 percent of them detached houses and 14.5 percent in five-plus-unit buildings. Of 13,915 occupied homes, 32 percent are rented, and the median housing unit is from 1966. A further 115 of 750 vacant units are held for seasonal or occasional use.
The North Coast County Water District supplies Pacifica and bought all the water it delivered in 2025 from the San Francisco regional system. Its report lists hardness at 8.1 to 112 milligrams per liter, averaging 62, about 3.6 grains per gallon. Hardness is dissolved calcium and magnesium, and in any water a full rinse keeps cleaner from being left in the pile.

Damp-coast services
Carpet cleaning and rug cleaning lead in houses that stay damp through summer fog, and mattress cleaning suits rooms that never quite dry. Upholstery cleaning covers sofas and chairs in rooms that stay cool, and the office answers at any hour about water extraction.
- Carpet cleaning in PacificaHot-water extraction, often called steam cleaning. Hot water and solution go in, and suction pulls the dirt back out.
- Area rug cleaning in PacificaShag, woven and delicate rugs, cleaned in your home or taken off site for a full wash. The fiber decides the method, so viscose and Oriental rugs get a careful look first.
- Mattress cleaning in PacificaStains and odors lifted from the mattress surface. Nobody can remove dust mites completely, so we do not promise it.

I particularly liked the way the lead cleaner described the PH balance of the solutions that they were using on our carpets. The acidic neutralizing rinse makes sure the floor doesn’t feel crunchy or sticky when it is dry. That extra step means our floors are very silky and totally residue-free.
My kids have turned the giant living room ottoman into a trampoline and it's forever soiled with imprints. Steam cleaning the hefty cloth removed all the dark grime and restored the original bright blue hue. The furniture which is the focus is clean and the living space appears a lot tidier today.
Thick outdoor seats were covered in tree algae and bird poop. Power-washings of the tough material killed any dirt from outside. We are pleased to be hosting barbecues from our clean chairs again.
