Craftsman bungalows, a famous bowl and a hard fire season

Pasadena’s housing history is the Craftsman movement. The Gamble House, built by Greene and Greene, is a National Historic Landmark open as a museum, and Bungalow Heaven holds a large collection of small Craftsman homes built in the early twentieth century, most still standing. Old Pasadena’s blocks of shops and restaurants are the original commercial district, and the Rose Bowl, another National Historic Landmark, opened in 1922. Houses that old tend to hold older rugs and furniture, which is where careful rug and upholstery cleaning matters.

About seven homes in ten were built before 1980 and almost four in ten before 1950, so many floors and fabrics are old. Rugs in houses like these deserve a careful description when you call, especially any that are viscose, rayon or sold as art silk.

Pasadena gets about 20 inches of rain a year and hot summers, with the marine layer lingering in May and June and heat waves running from July to October. The January 2025 Eaton Fire destroyed parts of the city, and roughly a quarter of the city’s land sits in the Very High fire hazard tier. Water from Pasadena Water and Power runs hard, so how a cleaner rinses is worth a question.

Renters in the majority, apartments level with houses

  1. Nearly six in ten rent

Close to six homes in ten are rented, so a landlord, a manager or a tenant may be the one on the phone. Say which, and when the space has to be ready.

  2. Houses and buildings, nearly even

About as many units sit in apartment buildings of five or more as in single-family houses. For a building, mention the floor and the parking.

  3. Eight named neighborhoods

Old Pasadena, the Playhouse District, Bungalow Heaven, Lamanda Park, Hastings Ranch, South Lake, Linda Vista and Garfield Heights are among them. Naming yours on the call is enough.

Rugs and fabrics first, ducts only for a reason

Rug cleaning and upholstery cleaning are natural first questions in a city of Craftsman interiors, with carpet cleaning for the rest of the floor. Air duct cleaning is a decision for a specific reason, such as smoke exposure, visible mold, vermin or heavy debris, since the EPA says routine duct cleaning is not needed.

Questions from Pasadena

Why do some rugs turn yellow after cleaning?
Cellulose fibers such as viscose, rayon, banana silk and bamboo silk tend to yellow when wet, and a mild acid rinse and fast drying can lessen it. Tell the office the fiber if the label lists one, and say so if the rug has bled before.
Should I clean or replace carpet after smoke?
County guidance says to wash or dispose of porous items like linens and carpets. FEMA’s guide says light damage can be cleaned with several HEPA vacuum passes, while heavy damage needs a professional contractor, and no cleaner can promise a result on smoke-damaged fabric.
Do you clean apartment carpet in Pasadena?
Yes. With nearly half of the units in buildings of five or more, apartments are a big part of the city. Say whether it is a lived-in unit or a move-out when you call (844) 966-2005.
Can I phone on a Rose Bowl weekend?
Yes. Game weekends make no difference. The office is open day and night all week, and the form never closes.
