Older buildings, good rugs and a hillside edge
Neighborhoods like Tropico and Adams Hill sit in a housing stock where the biggest single group of homes dates from 1939 or earlier. If a hardwood floor in one of those older places carries a good rug, the rug is its own question. The Carpet and Rug Institute says woven Oriental, Turkish and Persian rugs belong with a professional rug cleaner, and some rugs are labeled dry-clean-only, so read the label before you book anyone.
Americana at Brand, the Glendale Galleria and the historic Alex Theatre mark a busy commercial core, and Forest Lawn’s flagship cemetery is here too. Shops, offices and lobbies in a core like that all have carpet, and those requests come to the same office as home ones.
Glendale also climbs into the Verdugo foothills, and about two thirds of the city sits in the county’s Very High fire hazard zone. After a fire, ash is a cleaning problem of its own. Los Angeles County Public Health says household and shop vacuums are not recommended for ash because they blow fine particles into the air, and that ash from burned buildings can carry asbestos, arsenic and lead. For heavy soot or smell, it points people to a professional cleaning or restoration contractor.
Renters, apartment buildings and older stock
Two renters for every owner
About two in three homes are rented. Either a manager or a tenant can start a request.
SourceBig buildings
More than half of the units are in buildings of five or more, and about a third are detached houses. The office needs the unit size and the flooring, so have those ready.
SourceOlder stock
Roughly seven homes in ten predate 1980. Older carpet, and older floors underneath it, are worth a mention when you call.

Rugs, carpet and ash after a fire
With so many older buildings, rug cleaning deserves a place beside carpet cleaning, and upholstery cleaning follows. After a fire, air duct cleaning is worth a conversation, but only that. The EPA says it has never been shown to prevent health problems, so it is a judgment call, with heavy mold, vermin or packed-in debris tilting it toward yes.
- Area rug cleaningShag, woven and delicate rugs. The fiber decides the method, so viscose and Oriental rugs get a careful look first, and some rugs are better washed in a plant.
- Carpet cleaningHot-water extraction, often called steam cleaning. Hot water and solution go in, and suction pulls the dirt back out.
- Air duct cleaningFor ducts with visible mold, vermin or heavy dust and debris. EPA does not recommend it as a routine job, so ask us whether yours needs it.
