Houses on acre lots and two very different water supplies
Nearly every home in Los Altos Hills, 98 percent of them, is a detached house, and only about 7 percent are rented. The Purissima Hills Water District, which serves part of the town, says it serves predominantly single-family homes on lots of at least an acre. Big houses mean big rooms: long stairs, large area rugs and sectional sofas are the usual items to list. The median home was built in 1977, and about 56 percent date from before 1980.
Two suppliers share the town. Purissima Hills is supplied with Hetch Hetchy water from San Francisco, and its 2024 report lists hardness of 8.4 to 106 ppm with an average of 57. California Water Service serves the rest, about 72 percent Valley Water and 28 percent wells, and lists local groundwater at 305 ppm on average. The same street can therefore sit on soft water or hard, depending on which supplier the bill names.
The nearest 30-year weather station, in Palo Alto, averages a July high near 79 F and a January low near 39 F, and hillside lots run cooler or warmer than any station. A hazard map for the town is linked from the county fire department’s wildfire page, which makes smoke and ash worth raising when you call.
Large houses, few renters
A town of detached houses
About 98 percent of the 3,363 housing units are detached houses, and none sit in buildings of five or more. Count the carpeted rooms, the stairs and the large rugs.
SourceOwners hold almost every home
Only 199 of 3,025 occupied homes are rented, so the caller is almost always the owner. Say whether the carpet came with the house.
SourceTwo suppliers, one hardness gap
Purissima Hills reports an average of 57 ppm; Cal Water reports 305 ppm in local groundwater and 96 to 98 ppm in Valley Water supply. The bill shows which supplier serves your house.

What large hillside houses call for
Rug cleaning and upholstery cleaning lead where big rooms hold large rugs and sectionals. Carpet cleaning covers the bedrooms and stairs, and air duct cleaning is worth raising after a remodel or a smoky season, though the EPA treats it as a job for visible mold, vermin or heavy debris.
- Area rug cleaning in Los Altos HillsShag, woven and delicate rugs, cleaned in your home or taken off site for a full wash. The fiber decides the method, so viscose and Oriental rugs get a careful look first.
- Upholstery & leather cleaning in Los Altos HillsSofas, chairs and leather. The cleaning code on the tag (W, S, W/S or X) tells us whether the fabric takes water, solvent or neither.
- Carpet cleaning in Los Altos HillsHot-water extraction, often called steam cleaning. Hot water and solution go in, and suction pulls the dirt back out.

What customers say on Google
A selection of our 5-star reviews on Google.
I particularly liked the way the lead cleaner described the PH balance of the solutions that they were using on our carpets. The acidic neutralizing rinse makes sure the floor doesn’t feel crunchy or sticky when it is dry. That extra step means our floors are very silky and totally residue-free.
My kids have turned the giant living room ottoman into a trampoline and it's forever soiled with imprints. Steam cleaning the hefty cloth removed all the dark grime and restored the original bright blue hue. The furniture which is the focus is clean and the living space appears a lot tidier today.
Thick outdoor seats were covered in tree algae and bird poop. Power-washings of the tough material killed any dirt from outside. We are pleased to be hosting barbecues from our clean chairs again.
