Old streets, a new ranch community and several water supplies
Ontario is two housing markets in one city. Federal estimates show 49.7 percent of units built before 1980 and 21.2 percent in 2000 or later, with a median year of 1980. The city’s hazard plan says Ontario Ranch, a master-planned community of more than 8,000 acres, is being built out over about 20 years and is where most new development is expected, with Downtown, West Holt, East Holt and the Ontario Airport Metro Center as the other growth areas. Older homes bring older carpet and subfloors, and new ones bring newer carpet with a maker’s care schedule.
Water comes from several places. In 2025 the Ontario Municipal Utilities Company supplied about 64.5 percent local groundwater, 27.7 percent purchased groundwater and 7.8 percent imported treated surface water, and parts of the city are served by Cucamonga Valley Water District and Monte Vista Water District. Local groundwater averaged 124 milligrams per liter of hardness, imported water 91, and the purchased groundwater between 137 and 177. So the number at your tap depends on the street, and so do the spots on tile and glass.
The hazard plan notes that Southern California and Ontario suffer from seasonal Santa Ana winds, which can worsen wildfire risk, and it lists the 2007 Walker Fire, 166 acres of mainly dairy pasture inside the city, among the major fires. Dust and smoke from wind events end up in carpet, upholstery and the return air, so look at the registers if a windy week has just passed.

A steady mix of floors, rugs and tile
Carpet cleaning is the steady job across houses, townhomes and apartments. Rug cleaning matters in older homes with area rugs over hard floors. Tile and grout cleaning suits households on the harder side of the city’s water, since minerals spot tile and glass.
- Carpet cleaning in OntarioHot-water extraction, often called steam cleaning. Hot water and solution go in, and suction pulls the dirt back out.
- Area rug cleaning in OntarioShag, woven and delicate rugs, cleaned in your home or taken off site for a full wash. The fiber decides the method, so viscose and Oriental rugs get a careful look first.
- Tile & grout cleaning in OntarioTile floors and grout lines. Grout made of cement is porous, so sealing is part of the conversation.

I particularly liked the way the lead cleaner described the PH balance of the solutions that they were using on our carpets. The acidic neutralizing rinse makes sure the floor doesn’t feel crunchy or sticky when it is dry. That extra step means our floors are very silky and totally residue-free.
My kids have turned the giant living room ottoman into a trampoline and it's forever soiled with imprints. Steam cleaning the hefty cloth removed all the dark grime and restored the original bright blue hue. The furniture which is the focus is clean and the living space appears a lot tidier today.
Thick outdoor seats were covered in tree algae and bird poop. Power-washings of the tough material killed any dirt from outside. We are pleased to be hosting barbecues from our clean chairs again.
